The September meeting was the last part of the beginners course, and they were provided with a Scots Pine which with the help of Tony Oswin were wired and bent. Other members had various trees including Chinese Elms, Juniper and Maples.
The tree of the month was first for Geoff in the advanced and Julian in intermediate.

The August Thorngrove workshop on 31st was good, with the usual number of trees. Cotoneasters, Junipers, Pines and Lonicera worked on during the day.
Chris Thomas workshop 24th August 2024
The group held the workshop with Chris Thomas started in heavy rain, which cleared later.
The group of nine brought plenty of trees to work on including Larch, Pines, Junipers etc.
After Lunch everyone went to see what was in the van, and quite a lot of trees were selected.
Then later in the afternoon Chris did some carving on a nice Juniper.
All agreed that it was an excellent day.

The August meeting was the belated talk by Simon Temblett. He brought some of his trees that he has worked on for as much as 30 years. None of his trees cost much money, he has never bought a bonsai. He showed the various methods he uses to create deadwood and texture on bark as well as how to move a branch down a trunk. It was an excellent evening that everyone enjoyed.

Thorngrove workshop on 27th July was on a warm day. Two Pines were re potted plus a lot of other trees. As always it was an enjoyable day with good work done.
The Pottery workshop with Dan Butler on 20th July was excellent. There were ten members for the workshop, and dan started by talking about the basics and then everyone made a pinch pot.
Next everyone found the clay they needed for the pot they wanted to make. All shapes and sizes, including a lot of mushrooms.
In the afternoon several members had a go on the wheel.
The pots will be fired and glazed by Dan and we will collect at a later date.

Various tree were worked including a White Pine, a Black Pine two Chinese Elms and a Juniper amongst others.

Thorngrove was a very warm day, but first we went to the Duncliffe garden Club show to put on a small display.
Then it was back to Thorngrove and the workshop. We had two visitors with trees to look at, and there were a lot of trees worked including hawthorn and Cotoneaster. hen it was back to the show where the display was well received by the visitors.

The June meeting was a first visit of Amelia Williams. Her talk was about Penjing, Chinese style of bonsai. The pictures were mainly from China of a massive collection, huge landscapes and trees.

The May workshop at Thornrove was very busy with a lot of members present. Trees worked included a nice Chojubai, a large Beech and a large Hornbeam. Also a Juniper and a nice smaller Elm. It was a good day all round.
10th May was the second part of the beginners course, and a general workshop. Led by Tony Oswin again, the beginners first checked their trees, and then had a lesson in wiring and pruning on some Conifers.

The April workshop was very busy, lots of work on lots of trees. It was good to see the beginners coming along.

The March meeting was the first part of the beginners course. With Tony Oswin leading, they beginners wired and re potted their Larch trees. The rest of the members were also re potting and wiring and styling trees.
First in the Advanced tree of the month was Ian Duff, second Ade Taylor. In the Intermediate Pat Pocock was first.

The February workshop at Thorngrove was for re potting, Larch and Junipers were re potted amongst other trees. The day started frosty, but warmed up later in the day. Several Vine weevil were found in one Juniper, hopefully all were found and removed. The March workshop will be the last re potting for this year.
Ten members of the group had an excellent workshop with Chris Thomas on 17th February. Trees were re potted, or pruned and wired. Then Chris carved several trees including an Olive and larch.
Everyone enjoyed the day and most went away with more trees or pots then they came with. The next workshop with Chris is already booked!

The first meeting of the year at Thorngrove on 27th January was a cold start but warmed up later in the day. Some trees were re potted including a Premna and Piceas. Also re potted a small Scots Pine.

12th January was the first meeting of 2024. The workshop was run along with a critique of members' winter image trees. There was plenty of discussion of the various trees, these included a White Beech, Larch, Scots Pine, Cork Bark Elm and a Cherry.
